Light a candlefor the ones you carry

A real flame, lit in your name on our altar and kept burning for a day, a week or a month. Grief is long. Light should be too.

"Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it."

Song of Solomon 8:7

The Lord is my shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.

Psalm 23:1–4

My light and my salvation

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

Near to the broken-hearted

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 34:18

I will lift up mine eyes

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1–2

Prayers

For someone remembered

Eternal rest

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace, and may their love remain a light in us.

For the anxious heart

Prayer for peace

Lord, quiet the noise within me. Where there is fear, place trust; where there is sorrow, place tenderness; where there is night, place a small and steady flame.

For healing

Prayer for the sick

Gentle Healer, lay your hand upon all who suffer this night. Ease their pain, strengthen those who care for them, and hold them until morning.

For gratitude

Prayer of thanks

For breath, for bread, for the ones who love me still — thank you. Let me carry this gratitude like a candle into tomorrow.
